What did Mommy win?

My husband and I went to my office holiday party last week. The door prizes at our parties are usually quite amazing, and this year an Apple iPad was one of the prizes. I hazard a guess to say that everyone in attendance was betting that they had the winning ticket for the iPad.

Well, I did not win the iPad. Either did Jay. Either did anyone else at our table.

More gifts given out...gift cards, digital cameras, GPS units...pretty decent gifts, but still no winners at our table. Then, the final gift was announced....a Sony Vaio netbook! The winning ticket: number 121! Me!! Love love love it!!

So, the next morning, waking Yammy up for school, I usually have to resort to some sort of excitement to get her up. As she's not a morning person, she needs an incentive to get up. Usually it's a school-related thing (it's pizza day! it's show and tell day!) ...but I had nothing school-related this morning. The incentive was "if you get up now, Mommy will show you pictures from the party and you can see what I won!"

Yammy: Did you win a teddy bear?
Mommy: No, it's better than a teddy bear!
Yammy: Did you win a t-shirt?
Mommy: Nope..better than a t-shirt.

Slight pause and much thought. Then she asked in her most serious tone:

"Is it a teddy bear wearing a t-shirt?"

What I gather from this exchange is that the best thing in the world to a five-year-old is a teddy bear wearing a t-shirt.

Why does Santa spend so much on Christmas then??
